Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero tomo posesión como rector de la Universidad de Navarra en 2012. Es el 8º rector de la Universidad desde su fundación.
Ismael Sánchez Bella, doctor of Law and certified in Latin American Studies, arrived at the University of Navarra in 1952, becoming one of the first professors of the academic institution. He was the first director of the Law School and held this position for two years until he was named rector of the university. In 1959 he became vice president and remained in that office until 1986. He authored numerous articles for scientific journals and research initiatives. He was also a founding member and honorary president of the International Institute of History of Indigenous Law, and a professor at various institutions in Spain and Latin America.
José María Albareda, doctor of Pharmacy and Chemistry. He was formed in various European countries and promoted the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC). He specialized in soil science at the Universities of Bonn, Zurich and Königsberg as a result of his attraction to the field's natural aspects. He was greatly dedicated to research, publishing a total of 203 works. He was the Chair of Agriculture at the Institute of Media Formation in Huesca and then held the same position at the Instituto Velázquez in Madrid. In 1959 he was ordained a priest and continued his intense professional career. In 1960 he was named rector of the University of Navarra; he held the position until his death.
Francisco Ponz, earned a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences at the University of Madrid. He continued his studies in Switzerland and later became the Philosophy Chair in the Department of Sciences at the University of Barcelona in 1944. In 1966 he became a professor at the University of Navarra where he was named rector and then later vice president (1979-1992). He published 150 works as a result of his extensive scientific study as well as philosophy books and various articles and books covering university themes.
Alfonso Nieto, Doctor of Law and Journalism, completed his postgraduate studies in La Sarbona, Barcelona, and Heidelber. He earned a degree in journalism and became a professor in the Department of Sciences and Information at the University of Navarra. From 1972-1974 he was the dean of the department. After his time as vice chancellor, he was named rector of the university from 1979-1991. In 2002 Alfonso Nieto was given an honorary doctorate from the Austral University in Buenos Aires and again in 2007 by the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. He was the first Chair of Information Industries and encouraged the study of Journalism within Spanish universities. He passed away in Pamplona in 2012.
Alejandro Llano, studied at the Universities of Madrid, Valencia, and Bonn. He earned his doctoral degree at the University of Valencia with a thesis, directed by Professor Gottfried Martin, about Kant's Metaphysics. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Valencia and became the Chair of Metaphysics at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Between 1981 and 1989 he was the dean of the Department of Philosophy and Letters at the University of Navarra. In 1991 he was named rector of the university. Since 2000 he has been the president of the Institute of Anthropology and Ethics and he was one of the main supporters of the Enterprise and Humanism Institute. In January of 200 he became a professor at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas and in 2005 he was given an honorary doctorate from the Pan-American University (Mexico).
José María Bastero, engineer and full professor. He completed his studies in Naval Engineering at the Technical University of Madrid, and later earned his doctorate at the same university where he earned the title Industrial Engineer in 1980. He was a full professor at the University of Bilbao and director of the E.T.S. of Engineers of the University of Navarra. He was also the director of the Center for Technical Studies and Research of Gipuzkoa between 1982 and 1993. He moved to Pamplona in 1992 to be the vice president of Research and in 1996 he was named rector of the university. He has written numerous articles in international journals in his field and he also published a Course on Mechanics manual.
Ángel José Gómez Montoro is the Chair of Constitutional Law at the University of Navarra. He has a law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid and a diploma in Constitutional Law and Political Science from the Center for Political and Constitutional Studies. He earned a Ph.D., with honors, at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He is a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and has been a Visiting Scholar at the Universities of Münster and Columbia. He has taught at the Universidad Complutense and the Autonomous University of Madrid, as well as at various universities and institutions in Germany, Italy, Colombia, and Mexico. He was a lawyer for the Constitutional Court from 1994 to 1998. In 2003 he received the Francisco and Valiente Award. He is an honorary member of Jakiunde (Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters). In 2001 he joined the University of Navarra in which he was named vice president (2003) and rector (2005).
Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero es licenciado y doctor en Ciencias de la Información por la Universidad de Navarra. Profesor de Empresa Informativa y ha dirigido el Máster en Gestión de Empresas de Comunicación. Ha sido profesor de Estructura de la Información Periodística y vicedecano de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales y de la Comunicación en la Universidad del País Vasco. En 2007 obtuvo la habilitación de Catedrático. Entre 1996 y 2005 fue decano de la Facultad de Comunicación de la Universidad de Navarra.
Es PDG por el IESE de la Universidad de Navarra y Visiting Fellow del European Institute for the Media (Dusserldorf, Alemania). También ha sido profesor visitante de la Universidad de Manchester (1990-1992) y de la Universidad de Northwestern de Chicago (1996). Impulsó la puesta en marcha en Nueva York del Institute for Media & Entertainment, un centro promovido por el IESE y la Facultad de Comunicación. Ha sido Presidente de la European Media Management Education Association (1998-2004).
De 2005 a 2007 fue el primer vicerrector de Comunicación Institucional de la Universidad de Navarra. Fue vicerrector de Relaciones Internacionales de 2007 y desde agosto de 2012 hasta diciembre de 2021, rector de la Universidad de Navarra.
Actualmente continúa impartiendo clases en la Facultad de Comunicación y asesorando a alumnos.
