CIMA, together with other research centers from the University of Navarra and the technological operation ADItech , has participated in BioSpain 2014, which is the most important biotechnological event in Spain and the sixth most important internationally. This seventh international biotech event was held at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Galicia, in Santiago de Compostela.

BioSpain is organized by ASEBIO (Asociación Española de Bioempresas) and co-organized by several local institutions, directed by the Xunta de Galicia.

The Congress is made up of a trade exhibition, a partnering event, an investment forum, plenary recessions, conferences on varied subjects with Spanish and international speakers, and a forum on employment and training. This year the Congress has hosted over 2000 participants and 800 companies and institutions from 40 countries, including Portugal, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Russia and India.

The University of Navarra and its research centers Centro de Investigación en Nutrición, Centro de Ingeniería Biomédica, Centro de Investigación Médica Aplicada –CIMA–, Clínica Universidad de Navarra and the Unidad de desarrollo del medicamento) participated with a 10-person delegation and their own stand, where, with ADItech and its other centers, showed their potential for biotechnology. Together the two institutions have organized an event whose main aim is to find business opportunities in biotechnology.

Centre for Biomedical Engineering

The new Centre for Biomedical Engineering (CBIO) of the University of Navarra has chosen this event to present its potential to the business sector. Noteworthy amongst others is its innovative platform for the discovery of the mechanisms of molecular action, or finding new indications for drugs which are at an advanced phase of development or already on the market. The added value of this "in silico" technology is the reduction of risk in early stages of drug development and the associated costs.

BioSpain has become an important platform for the presentation of Spanish biotechnology at an international level, which covers the commercial, academic and informative needs of the sector. For the University of Navarra, the main objective of the Congress is to show itself to be an institution with research potential in this field. In this way, it defines itself as a suitable partner for those companies in the sector who wish to develop their research projects at the University.
