Joaquín Sedano, new Dean of the School of Canon Law

The Chancellor of the University of Navarra, Mons. Fernando Ocáriz, has appointed Professor Joaquín Sedano as the new dean of the School of Canon Law. He replaces Professor Antonio Viana, who held the position since 2012 and who will continue his teaching and research work at the university.
Joaquin Sedano was Associate Dean for Research at the School of Canon Law from 2012. He has a degree in Law from the University of Jaén and a degree in Canon Law from the University of Navarra and holds a doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce (Rome). He joined the University in 2006 as an assistant professor and since 2017 has been an adjunct professor of History of Canonical Sources and History of Canonical Institutions.
He is a member of the Advisory Board of the International Society of Medieval Canon Law since 2012; of the Scientific Council of the Historical Dictionary of Canon Law in Hispanic America and the Philippines 16th-18th centuries of the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory since 2019; member of Scientific Advisory Board of the journal Zeitschrift der Savigny-Stiftung für Rechtsgeschichte. Kanonistische Abteilung since 2019; and a core member of Canon Law Research Center of Pázmány Péter Catholic University (Budapest, Hungary) since 2014. In addition, he has carried out research stays in Frankfurt, Bonn and Munich.
He is a researcher at the ICS (Institute for Culture and Society) on a project "El carisma en la España bajomedieval: Gobernantes, ceremonias, objetos"( Charisma in late medieval Spain: Rulers, ceremonies and objects) in the research line 'Political Theology of Religion and Civil Society Group'. He is also co-author of the General Dictionary of Canon Law and author of numerous publications and book chapters.
