Concepción Naval
Project director
Professor Naval teaches educational theory and is Dean of the School of Education and Psychology at the University of Navarra. She has previously serviced as the Vice President of the University of Navarra (2001-2012) and as Director of the Department of Education (1996-2001).
She has been a visiting research scholar at Harvard University, the University of Notre Dame, the UNESCO International Bureau of Education, St. Edmund's College, Cambridge University and Boston University. She has also been a visiting professor at the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico.
In 2003, she was a Salzburg Seminar Fellow (Austria) and, during 2012-2013, Visiting Fellow and Oliver Smithies Lecturer at Balliol College, University of Oxford (UK) and an academic visitor at Teachers College, Columbia University (USA).
She directs the Estudios sobre Educación journal and is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Social Science Education, Journal Citizenship, Teaching and Learning, and History of Education and Children´s Literature, among others.
Her research focuses on the study of citizenship education and social participation, the social influence of social media among young people, teaching innovation through new methodologies, the use of communication technologies in schools and universities, museums as educational spaces, and quality and reputation in higher education.
She is the author of several books, including Teoría de la educación (2008) and Educación de la sociabilidad (2009). She is also co-author of numerous works, including Civic Pedagogies in Higher Education: Teaching for Democracy in Europe, Canada and the USA (2014) and Citizenship, Democracy and Higher Education in Europe, Canada and the USA (2014).
Since 2010 she has directed the "Civic Parliament" project funded by the Provincial Parliament of Navarra and, since 1997, she has also directed theCitizenship and Education research group.
