The content of the subjects that make up this module relate to the structure and functions of the normal human body as a basis for understanding pathology. The module includes some subjects that have been designed based on the criteria of key subjects and that consist of the essential elements of anatomy, cell biology, biochemistry and human physiology. The more detailed aspects that are relevant to doctors in these fields have been included in other modules. The subject Medical Psychology includes knowledge and the acquisition of communication and personal interaction skills, in addition to the study and exploration of normal human behavior.

• Skills of module I

The subject Biomedical Research combines content that enables graduates to initiate clinical and translational research. It provides students with training in research methodologies, knowledge of basic research techniques and how to handle sources.

Human Training and Professional Values provides a basis for students to learn how to conduct themselves professionally, to assess the patient as a person and to develop an understanding of his/her environment. It focuses in particular on ethical and legal aspects, and the economic and social impact of their activity.

The subject Fundamentals of Pathology includes aspects common to disease and the detailed study of physiopathology, including normal functions and alterations.

The subject Medical and Surgical Pathology is concerned with the study, of the most common human diseases, through various systems and apparatuses, and how to diagnose and treat them, and includes medical and surgical aspects.

The subject Areas of Medical Activity is taught in the final year of the degree program and aims to prepare students to address the content studied in their previous years from the perspective of their future activity as a doctor. It provides an overview and methods that are specific to each of these areas.

The subject Diagnostic Procedures includes the areas of knowledge that form the basis for the etiological diagnosis of most human diseases, and the methods and techniques that allow students to apply this knowledge to clinical practice. This includes morphological procedures and diagnostic techniques through imaging, from macroscopic to molecular level, and microbiological, biochemical and immunopathological processes.

The subject Therapeutic Basics in Medicine combines the key strategies for action in the area of pathology. The use of pharmaceuticals, physical procedures (radiotherapy), surgical techniques, and rehabilitation and physiotherapy. It also includes a subject on therapeutic advances: cell and gene therapy, regenerative medicine, etc.

• ​Skills of module IV

Clinical placement: this involves supervised internships in hospitals and primary healthcare centers. Each training period has its own objectives to ensure that students acquire clinical experience in at least six different areas of pathology. They will be involved in medical work in each of these areas. They will participate in clinical sessions and in the discussion of cases. As well as clinical knowledge and skills, they will learn to work as part of a team and develop an understanding of the role of the doctor in multidisciplinary teams.

Final Year Project: the completion of a project on a topic of medical interest under the supervision of a tutor, followed by its presentation. To give a general idea, it could involve the preparation and defense of several clinical case studies addressing the following topics:

• Resolution of an ethical problem.

• A detailed study of an academic article on a therapeutic review in English.

• A complex multisystem clinical case study.

• A case study that raises a communication problem.

If possible, these case studies will be collected by students through their experience of the various areas of their clinical placement.

Each subject and the subject areas within it are complementary to students' training. The range of credits enables students to undertake specializations in research, psychiatry, surgery, medical specialties, etc.
