The team was awarded first place in the 10-Minute Oral Presentation category and second place in the Full Presentation category. The competition, which is the most internationally renowned contest in the field of Business Ethics, brought together a total of 33 teams from around the world.

The team was coached by Ignacio Ferrero, the Dean of the School of Economics and Business Administration and a professor of Business Ethics. The study they presented, “Make Money, No Matter How: The Wells Fargo Ghost Account Scandal”, looked at the fake-account scandal that engulfed Wells Fargo, the fourth-largest bank in the United States.

Throughout the three days of the competition the competing teams tackled the financial, legal and ethical aspects of a range of subjects related to morality, such as death due to unlawful possession of weapons and the emerging phenomenon of “fake news” in the media and on new technological platforms.

The International Business Ethics Case Competition was hosted by the University of Santa Monica and organized by the Center for Ethics and Business at Loyola Marymount University in California; the Opus College of Business at the University of St. Thomas – Minnesota; and the Hoffman Center for Business Ethics at Bentley University in Massachusetts.
