IV CONFERENCIA DE LA CÁTEDRA IDEA DE NUEVAS LONGEVIDADES
Programa
12:00-12:30. Conferencia de Matilde Leonardi, Neuróloga y profesora de la Universidad Católica de Milán. Directora del Centro de Neurología Besta Institute, centro colaborador de la OMS.
Disability, affecting over a billion people globally, is more prevalent in older populations and lower-income settings. Barriers to inclusion—such as inadequate policies, prejudice, and inaccessibility—disproportionately impact older people with disabilities. Aging increases the risk of chronic conditions and disability, making functioning a crucial indicator of health alongside mortality and morbidity.
Improved data collection, disaggregated by age, disability, and gender, is essential to ensure equitable development and effective policy-making. Recognizing aging and disability as shared human experiences fosters a more inclusive society. A life-course perspective reinforces that a society’s progress depends on valuing the health and dignity of all, at every stage of life. |
